DP-600 Study Guide: Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer
Build your preparation around an analytics deliverable: clean data, a model that answers a business question, and an access plan. A model that looks correct in a report can still be difficult to maintain or expose more data than intended.
Updated · By Prep With Proof. These exercises are our suggested study approach; they are not official exam tasks or a claim that every bank item has been reverified.
Start with the official DP-600 requirements
Open the official DP-600 certification or study-guide page ↗. Confirm the objectives that apply to your exam date, including any announced future updates. Use the provider's page for current exam format, prerequisites and scheduling information.
A practice bank is a learning supplement. Its question count is a product choice, and its score is not a guarantee of certification readiness.
DP-600 topic checklist
Use the topic areas represented in our practice library to organise revision, then compare them with the current official objectives. They do not replace the provider's blueprint.
- Implement and manage semantic models
- Maintain a data analytics solution
- Prepare data
Four practical DP-600 study exercises
Keep the exercise small enough to finish and explain. The deliverable matters: it makes gaps visible before you repeat another practice test.
1. Turn a reporting requirement into a model
Use a small sales dataset. Write the grain of each table before creating relationships. Compare a model designed for monthly totals with one that must support transaction-level investigation.
Keep this result: A model sketch and a short explanation of why each relationship is necessary.
2. Make data preparation testable
Introduce a duplicate record, a missing key and an incorrect data type into your sample. Decide which corrections belong in the preparation layer and which checks should reject a refresh.
Keep this result: A before-and-after table with the reason for each cleanup rule.
3. Review access and deployment separately
Write a fictional analyst, developer and viewer access matrix. Then describe how you would move a model change from development to production without confusing workspace permissions with data visibility.
Keep this result: An access matrix and a release checklist.
4. Explain a performance decision
Choose a slow report interaction and form a hypothesis about its cause. Compare changing a calculation, a relationship or a storage decision before selecting a remedy.
Keep this result: One measured observation and the evidence you would need to validate your proposed fix.
Study mistakes to watch for
- Memorizing a DAX result without explaining its filter context.
- Choosing a storage approach without considering the scenario constraints.
- Treating workspace access and row-level data visibility as the same decision.
After a wrong answer, write the scenario constraint you missed and why the strongest alternative fails. Revisit the concept with a fresh example before repeating the same question.
